About Mike

Michael was born in west Texas but had the privilege of spending a large portion of his childhood growing up in Bangkok, Thailand where his parents were missionaries.  Upon returning to the US, he moved to Kingsville, Texas to be closer to extended family who all live in South Texas.  Michael has always had a love for everything outdoors and a strong desire for adventure which lead him to study Recreation, Park & Tourism Science at Texas A&M University.

During his time in college he began to work for Wilderness Trek on summer staff and returned each year throughout his college career.  It was at this time Michael began to see his calling to work in wilderness ministry on a fulltime basis and also gave him the opportunity to begin taking his passion for mountaineering more seriously, which with time has allowed him to climb numerous mountains in the US and South America.

Before becoming the Director of Operations for Wilderness Trek, Michael spent seven years serving on the Wilderness Trek Board of Directors in roles such as Chair of the Operations Committee and Secretary of the Board. Through this work, Michael has developed a deep relationship with Wilderness Trek & the outdoors that spans nearly two decades.  It’s these experiences that have instilled in him a passion for sharing the Gospel through God’s creation.

Michael lives in Glorieta, New Mexico with his beautiful and talented wife Erin. When they aren’t out pursuing one of the many outdoor recreational activities they love they deeply enjoy connecting with friends over good food and building relationships & community.
