2022 Challenges

by paul@wildernesstrek.org | Feb 25, 2022 | General News, Prayer Blog

WHAT WE’RE UP AGAINST

In many ways, 2022 is shaping up to be harder than 2021. Camps across the nation are reporting lower expected attendance and youth group participation, more requests for scholarships, and rising inflation costs. We are currently experiencing many of the same problems churches and businesses across the nation are facing.

A recent study from the Institute for family studies found that church attendance actually SHRUNK the past two years.

US church attendance dropped below 50% for the first time since 1940.

As a ministry that works closely with churches across the nation, this has created several issues for us. Combined with rapid inflation, supply chain issues, rising travel costs, and the uncertain resolution to COVID, we are facing yet another unique year of ministry.

Some of the issues we are closely monitoring in 2022 are:

  • Church attendance went down the past two years with many smaller churches we work with having to cut youth summer programs significantly
  • Many medium to small churches we work with cut their youth budgets drastically
  • Rising inflation has pinched our budget with large increases in food, supplies, and fuel Almost every area of our budget was hit with unexpected price increases due to inflation, the economy, or supply costs
  • Last year the number of scholarship trips we offered doubled, this year they have currently doubled again!
  • We have had a record number of scholarship requests for 2022 trips already and it is only February

Please pray for us as we navigate the challenges of this unique time in the American church.

While we do not know the long-term effects of these issues, we know God is working in all things. God blessed us in 2021 beyond our imagination, we expect great things to come in 2022 as well. Wilderness Trek will continue to train disciples and leaders in as many ways as possible in 2022 no matter what challenges we face. Keep scrolling to see how you can help!
