TREK ANNOUNCES NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

TREK ANNOUNCES HIRING OF NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

October 2013

“Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you…” I Chron 28:20

Trek Family,

Wilderness Trek Christian Camp (“Trek”) is very excited to announce the appointment of Bob Harris as our new Executive Director.  Bob comes to TREK with a wealth of experience in growing and leading camps and ministries. Bob and his wife, Joan, worship with Riverside Church of Christ in Coppell, Texas where Bob is currently an elder, serving in that role for 15 years. Joan teaches 3 year olds and has been a long time leader in the children’s ministry at Riverside. “She has been a partner to Bob in everything he does.”  Bob previously served as Executive Director of Texoma Youth Camp and also served as its’ Board President. Bob brings tremendous corporate experience as well. He was President/Founder of Harris Manufacturing Co., Inc. and operated that company for 20 years before selling to employees – it is still operating strong.

Bob will be concentrating on organizing Treks in the Rocky Mountains in the summer of 2014. With many prayers and the help of volunteers, WTCC will focus on a renewed direction of “Summit & Serve”; a continuation of 37 years of guiding teens up the southern Rocky Mountains, strengthening their faith. As a non-profit ministry, Trek is blessed to have Bob’s leadership to also grow the Trek experience for many inner-city youth from across the country.

Bob Harris on becoming TREK ED:

“I’m looking forward in helping prepare a way for kids to come closer to God while on the mountain, in the rich heritage of Trek … and then serving like Christ when they come off the mountain. In some ways I’ve been preparing for this all my life, through leading many church camps, Scout groups, and the YMCA with my own two kids. I started staffing at camp at the age of 16 where I met kids I still have great relationships with today – we still sit around the campfire and tell those great stories, of course we aren’t kids anymore!”

Bob’s Most meaningful verse is James 1:27 (NIV) “ Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

Bob has witnessed the transforming power of God’s creation on young people through his involvement in camps and Riverside’s participation in Trek. We are blessed to have him as a continuing part of the Trek family.

Blessings,

Board of Trustees
